I purchased my first shih tzu from Lisa Meyer a couple of years ago for a
pet. Since that time I have purchased several shih tzus from Lisa as I found
her to be a very conscientious breeder whose goal is to produce healthy, happy
and well socialized puppies. She is wonderful to work with in that pictures
are send on a regular basis as the puppy grows and she always responds to your
emails in a timely manner. Once the puppy goes to their new home, her role
doesn’t stop there. If you have questions or concerns, she is always willing
to provide advice and help in any way possible. She always puts the well
being of the puppy first. I have picked up my puppies on several occasions at
her home and I can testify to the fact that they are all in her house and are
very much a part of her family. I would highly recommend Lisa Meyer to anyone
looking to purchase a puppy from a reputable breeder that goes out of her way
to make sure that her puppies are placed in loving homes.

My husband and I had heard about Puppies on the Prairie from a friend who had a beautiful Shih-tzu named Kona from Lisa. We decided to travel to Hayti and visit ourselves. The moment we got out of the car and were greeted by a HERD of happy bounding Shih-Tzu...our minds were made up, this would be where our babies would come from.

Lisa has a love and dedication to her fur babies that brings tears to your eyes, this is how all dogs should be raised, loved and nurtured.

I did not really understand what a difference in personality a home raised puppy could make....our babies were never startled by normal home noises and immediately became prince and princess of our homes and our lives.

They are exceptionally healthy, and Lisa ALWAYS has time to give me a very fast response to the many e-mails and questions I throw at her sometimes daily!

My only regret is that I had to stop at two babies (for now).
It will never be a question that when we add to our family, that Puppies on the Prairie and Lisa, will be the only place we would consider.

If I had a way to make this any more glowing I would do so!

We got our precious Emmi Lou from Lisa Meyer. She is such a wonderful girl! She is a beautiful baby with such a wonderful personality! Lisa drove 2 1/2 hours both ways to meet us to pick up our baby. I as a small breeder myself think that her work ethics are superb! Her babies are wonderful and raised with love as they all should be. I have dealt with breeders before but Lisa is an A+ breeder. Helpful in many ways even if it wasn't about Emmi. Thank you so much Lisa for such a beautiful wonderful girl! I would recommend you to everyone (I also would adopt another one from you too)! You have beautiful dogs and they come well taken care of and healthy.

Bringing a puppy into our home was a major decision. Ours is not the usual home as our two youngest children are special needs. After years of heart break never able to find an adequate birthday or Christmas gift for our 10 yr old son broke our hearts. He had to watch others play with his toys. The idea of a puppy intrigued us. Once we discovered "Puppies on the Prarie" we found the love, understanding and patience to help us get just the right puppy for our little boy and our family. Once Lisa helped us pick out our Bichon puppy the long hard wait began. Lisa answered every email, every question very quickly and lovingly. During our wait for our puppy we decided to get two puppies for our family Lisa helped us pick just the right brother.

our puppies had to travel across the USA to get home on a busy holiday weekend. Everything Lisa did to prepare our puppies, to prepare us added to the pleasure of greeting two beautiful puppies, snuggled into a beautiful crate, blanket and pad. Food for the first days. Within hours we had our puppies to our vet. Our vet was amazed as to the immaculate condition of our puppies. Our puppies were very well socialized, very gentle, very happy and have fit into our lives wonderfully.

Dustin, who has had little movement or speech his 10 years of life due to severe CP has had a wonderful change in his life. Two little puppies waiting for him in the morning and they're play have motivated him to move, actually move to get to his puppies. He has been motivated to speak words never uttered to get his puppies to come, to play and has even said two sentences.

We had such a wonderful experience with Lisa that when our quadruplet grand children turned 9 yrs old there was only one thing they wanted....A puppy. As fate would have it one Bichon brother had patiently waited for his new home and he too took the long trip across our country on a cold winter day. He too was immaculate when he arrived and has settled into his new home wonderfully.

Lisa, her love and care of her puppies is beyond outstanding. Lisa has been available for many many questions to be answered. He patience and care have caused us to deeply respect and love her. I would never have dreamed the experience could all go off so smoothly. My best friend has also adopted a puppy from Lisa and so the experience of four puppies from "Puppies on The Prairie" has proven to be as joyful as it can get when adopting a new puppy. the love never ends.

I had been looking for a puppy for about a year, researching breeds and breeders. My husband and I had certain traits in mind for our "baby" and Benji is the perfect addition to our family. Lisa patiently answered all of my questions, (I had many!) and she was very prompt in responding every time. She provided many helpful hints as we brought Benji home. She continues to stay in contact with us, and even sent Benji birthday greetings. With our schedules and because we live in CO, we were unable to make the drive to SD. Benji was shipped to us in a nice crate with food, blanket, and special toy. He just scrambled into my arms and started licking me, and he hasn't stopped! He has adjusted so well to life here, and he seems to have been very well socialized. We started puppy kindergarten shortly after we received Benji, and he just shone in class. He minds well and is healthy, but most of all he is just full of love to give. I'd buy another puppy from Lis a in a heartbeat if we could have 2 in our home! Thanks, Lisa, for helping us to find our special baby.

For Christmas, 2006, my husband and I wanted to surprise our children with a new puppy. We started searching for a good breeder in October and found Puppies on the Prairie. When I spoke with Lisa over the phone, I knew that we had hit the jackpot! I think she had more questions for us than we had for her. It was obvious that she wanted to make sure her “babies” went to good homes. The well-being of her puppies was definitely more important than a quick sale.

Once we picked out our precious Kona, Lisa sent regular updates and photos on how she was growing. She also agreed to keep Kona until she was 10 weeks old (instead of the typical 8 weeks) so that we could get her as close to Christmas Day as possible. However, we got some bad news just prior to Thanksgiving. My husband, who is in the Air Force, was to deploy for a couple of months and would be gone for the holiday season. We immediately thought of the fact that he wouldn’t be able to be there when we presented our new puppy to the kids. He was heartbroken at the thought of missing the surprised looks on their faces. When I told Lisa our situation, she was more than happy to keep Kona for an extra month so that we could have our surprise after he returned. Lisa even started the potty-training process for us. By the time Kona came home with us, she was already going to the door when she had to pee! Nice!!!

Kona has a wonderful temperament and is very healthy. She is the perfect fit for our family and everyone who meets her loves her. In fact, my Pilates instructor was so taken with Kona that she decided to check out Puppies on the Prairie for herself (and ended up getting two puppies from Lisa!). If we ever decide to get another dog, it will most definitely be from Puppies on the Prairie. Thanks, Lisa!

We first found out about Lisa and "Puppies On The Prairie" by doing a web search back in 2004. A couple months later we went down to S.D. and picked up our first little Shih Tzu "Bandit". He was a great traveler right from day one and didn't fuss a bit on the 3 hour ride home. Lisa had him potty trained so he was used to using the blue potty training pads. Our girls already had an Australian Shepherd "Cuki", and they soon became best buddies. Being a good little traveler, Bandit has gone on all our vacation trips including a houseboat vacation in northern Minnesota, where we discovered that Bandit loves to go in the lake, which I guess is quite unusual for ShihTzu's.
A couple years later we decided that Bandit needed a playmate more his size and decided to get another Shih Tzu from Lisa. We decided to get "Meeko", Bandit's half-brother. Meeko is almost twice as big as our tiny Bandit and has a personality 100% opposite of Bandit's. When we first got Meeko home Bandit wouldn't have a thing to do with him. In fact he went downstairs and spent 3 days with our twins and their dog Cuki. Eventually I guess he figured out that Meeko was there to stay and started to warm up to him. Meeko was and still is a ball of fire and I think Bandit got a little tired of being pestered by Meeko day and night. Now they still rough house a little with each other, but are soon laying side by side giving each other kisses or taking a nap. They are the most loving little guys a person could have and travel with us all the time without any problems. We're really happy we decided to add them to our family.
We have been in contact with Lisa quite often since we first got Bandit and then Meeko, and she has always answered any questions we have had right away. We would surely recommend "Puppies On The Prairie" if you are looking for a furry addition to your family. We send in photos of Bandit and Meeko and Lisa always puts them on her website. She's the Best!!!!

Claire & Chase-Texas
Adopting my puppy from Puppies on the Prairie was a wonderful experience! I had been searching for a male Bichon for several months and had already chosen the name Chase. To my surprise, when I saw the available Bichon puppies on the website; underneath one special picture it read “Chase.” I knew it was meant to be and couldn’t wait to see my puppy.

Lisa Meyer is an experienced and skilled breeder and was exceptional to work with. She is very friendly and always replied to my emails/questions promptly. She would also email pictures every so often and inform me as to how Chase was doing. Because I live in Texas, Chase was shipped here by plane. Lisa made all the arrangements and I was very comfortable with the planning. She was thorough in every detail and I knew she cared about Chase as much as I did. When I picked him up at the airport, he was perfect! I was ecstatic to have him home and grateful that he had the best start with Lisa during his first few weeks of life.

Today, Chase is healthy and full of energy. He is very intelligent and gets along great with other dogs. He adores people too! Chase has a great personality and is so much fun to have around. When the time comes to adopt a playmate for Chase, I will most definitely adopt from Lisa again. I feel I had the best experience possible adopting Chase and admire how Lisa cares for each puppy. Thank you Lisa!

I've been blessed to have shared my home with a series of dogs during my life. In March 2008, after living for a couple of years without a dog I started looking for a Shih Tzu puppy. I contacted several breeders and emphasized to all of them that I was looking for a dog with a good temperament. Although all of the breeders responded to me, Lisa was the only one who really addressed my concerns.

Lisa identified three pups that she had at that time, as being potentially the kind of dog I would want. She described their individual natures and behavior in detail. It was clear that she is a caring and observant steward of her dogs. I followed up by email and phone, and again it was obvious that Lisa knows and loves each of her dogs and puppies. I chose my puppy - Jasper - and we arranged his travel by air from S.D. to Denver.

Lisa's dedication to the welfare of her puppies was obvious in the meticulous arrangements she made for Jasper's flight to Denver, including coordinating with me. Lisa's husband would drive Jasper to Minneapolis, where he would be put on a nonstop flight to Denver. I was so excited when the big day arrived, and I could hardly wait to pick him up that afternoon at the Denver airport. When Lisa called me early that afternoon, I was disappointed to hear that due to mechanical problems the airline hadn't put Jasper on the plane after accepting him for shipment! A blizzard was closing in on that area that afternoon. Lisa feared that the airline might not get Jasper on the next (and last) flight out to Denver - or it might be cancelled. So rather than leaving Jasper with the airline, her husband drove back home with the pup - through a snowstorm. Lisa and I shared several phone calls and emails during that time. I am so impressed by the dedication of Lisa and her husband, to go to all that trouble to be sure that a little puppy was safe and secure!

After that adventure, we made alternate arrangements to get Jasper home to me. I flew to Sioux City, where Lisa had driven with Jasper to meet me. It was great to meet Lisa, who gave me a little backpack with a nice toy, food and treats for my puppy. I fell instantly in love with Jasper, who amazed me with his calm and friendly nature through the rest of the day which involved, among other new adventures, flying back to Denver in the airplane cabin! He was, at four months old, already very well socialized and used to being with people and living in a home with people.

Three months later, I'm still delighted with Jasper. He is a happy, friendly, healthy puppy, and cute as all get-out. I have recommended Lisa, with no reservations, as a breeder who is knowledgeable, caring and utterly dedicated to the welfare of the animals in her care.
